Valuing Diversity

Three important ideas/things from the reading today are that diversity is defined in the dictionary as "the condition of being different," valuing diversity recognizes differences between people and acknowledges that these differences are a valued asset, when you value diversity, you maximize the positive impacts of your program for all children and youth, but the most important thing I learned today is by building positive peer influence, young people begin to change negative attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors about diversity.

I really like this picture because it represents that children are the future. I think that it is important that teachers value diversity in the classroom.

  1. Hope, I really like how you said that " the condition of being different". I agree with that, we are all different the way we do things but we are not different human beings.

  2. Wow - I like where you put that valuing diversity recognizes differences between people and acknowledges that these differences are a valued asset.
Wonder - I agree that building positive peer influence among young people will have a positive effect on negative attitudes about diversity. I wonder if future technology will give us different ways on how to do this?

  5. I really liked the definition of diversity being "the condition of being different." We are all different but do you think that when the kids will change negative attitudes as they are growing older?

  6. Teaching children to change negative attitudes is great. I wonder what classrooms would be like if diversity was truly embraced everywhere?
